When Mishal turned one, her parents noticed that she wasn’t responding to their voices. They took her to the local hospital, where tests revealed she had congenital sensorineural hearing loss. The doctor recommended cochlear implant surgery as a solution to restore her hearing. The cochlear implant has external and internal components, with a microphone processing sounds and sending them to an implant inside her ear.

Mishal lives in a small house with her parents and five siblings. Her father is the sole earner, earning a monthly income of PKR 25,000. Unfortunately, they cannot afford the cost of the surgery, and they desperately need financial assistance. Mishal’s father shared his worry, saying:

Under the skilled hands of the esteemed surgeon, Dr. Maqbool Ahmed, Mishal underwent a groundbreaking right-sided cochlear implant surgery. The procedure utilized an advanced cochlear implant, designed to restore hearing function in individuals with sensorineural hearing loss.

The surgery proved to be a resounding success, opening the doors to a world of sound for Mishal. With attentive care and a brief period of recovery, Mishal’s condition improved significantly. On the 10th of December 2023, filled with gratitude and joy, Mishal and her family celebrated her discharge from the hospital, embracing a future filled with endless possibilities and newfound auditory delights.

After four weeks, an external component of the cochlear implant was installed, further enhancing Mishal’s ability to perceive sound.
