Farah Deeba's Story
Farah Deeba, a 52-year-old resident of Lahore, has been suffering from a cataract in her left eye. This eye condition has significantly impacted her vision, causing her discomfort and extreme difficulty in performing her daily activities such as cooking, reading newspapers, and going anywhere without any companion.
After seeking medical attention, Farah’s doctor recommended a (L) Phaco + IOL procedure to address the cataract and restore her sight. A few months ago, Farah started experiencing discomfort and inconvenience due to the cataract, which has led to serious short-sightedness.
Farah Deeba lives in a small two-marla room in Lahore with her husband and three children. Her husband is not doing any work due to old age. Her son is the only breadwinner in the family, who works as a daily wager and earns approximately 30,000 PKR per month. However, this income is hardly enough to cover the family’s basic expenses such as paying for grocery, utility bills, and other daily expenses, leaving them unable to afford the cost of Farah’s necessary eye surgery.
Farah’s financial constraints have become a big hurdle to restoring her vision with the help of a surgical intervention. As a housewife, she is entirely dependent on her son’s limited income, making it challenging for the family to take on the additional expenses associated with the recommended (L) Phaco IOL procedure.

Farah Deeba, a 71-year-old woman from Lahore, was suffering from short-sightedness and blurry vision. Upon consultation with a doctor, she was diagnosed with a cataract in her right eye. To restore her vision, the doctor recommended Phaco+IOL surgery. However, affording the cost of the surgery was beyond her family’s financial abilities as they were already facing financial hardships. They have a meager monthly income and they live in a modest home.
Farah’s life was badly affected by her visual impairment. She used to bump into things while walking and carrying out routine tasks became significantly challenging. She desperately needed the surgery but was unable to pay for it. If left untreated, the cataract could have become worse and increased the risk of glaucoma and even blindness.
