Farida Khanum's Story

Farida Khanum, aged sixty-two belongs to Haripur. In old age, life has tested her in a strange way with the development of Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) of Oral Cavity. Five months ago, a tiny pustule formed on the right side of her tongue. Medical examination revealed that over time the pustule had developed into Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) of Oral Cavity. Though (SCC) is an aggressive form of cancer, yet it remains a common malignant tumor of the mouth. It appears as slow-growing lesions that may ulcerate and cause scarring of the oral cavity, as in Farida’s case. In order to avoid spread to other regions, the treatment of choice is a surgical excision followed by radiation therapy, as decided by the treating surgeon. Farida Khanum has been advised Glossectomy and supra omohyoid neck dissection. Post-operative care and follow-up care with regular check-ups remains pivotal to the treatment. Farida Khanum’s son describes his mother’s agony in the following manner:

“The lump in ami’s mouth keeps increasing. She faces difficulty in eating, drinking and even in speaking. I miss her stories and her voice echoing in the house. She is losing fervor for life. It’s been five months and the suffering still continues. Initially I got her medically examined by a doctor in my hometown. She was referred to an oncologist so I took her to Karachi for checkup. Here the ENT Surgeon advised her to be hospitalized for the surgery. We had to leave the hospital with a heavy heart. I am a rickshaw driver and I only earn PKR. 18,000 a month. I live in a rented house where I am providing for a family of five. Due to lack of resources we could not afford the surgery. Now that we have been connected with Transparent Hands, I am hopeful.”

Luckily, now that Farida Khanum has been connected with Transparent Hands, you can make this procedure possible. Generously, donate for Farida Khanum’s Glossectomy and supra omohyoid neck dissection and enable her to lead a pain free life.
