A three-year-old resident of Larkana, named Farzana Khatoon, is confined within the walls of silence. he’s been living in a silent world since she was born, and it worries her parents a lot. When Farzana turned one, they went to the doctors to find out what was wrong. That’s when they learned she has a condition called profound sensorineural hearing loss, which means she can’t hear sounds at all. But there’s hope for Farzana—a transformative surgery called a cochlear implant.
This extraordinary surgical intervention has two parts: an internal component surgically placed near her ear and an external piece that will be fitted in the weeks following the surgery. Farzana’s family resides in modest circumstances, where financial constraints form an integral part of their daily existence. Her father, a diligent labourer, had a monthly income of PKR 15,000.
