Fiyaz Khan's Story

Meet Fiyaz Khan, an 11-year-old boy from Karachi, Sindh, who has been suffering from recurring episodes of sore throat and fever for three years. The condition is causing severe difficulty in swallowing and breathing, affecting his daily activities. He received symptomatic treatment but couldn’t find relief. His condition became worse, leading his parents to seek medical consultation from an ENT doctor. After a thorough examination, the doctor diagnosed him with Chronic Tonsillitis. It is a recurrent inflammation and swelling of the tonsils. The doctor recommended Tonsillectomy, a surgical procedure to remove the tonsils.

Fiyaz’s daily life has been significantly impacted by tonsillitis, limiting his ability to concentrate on his studies. Fiyaz Khan is a student in the 7th class and his studies are badly affected due to the persisting infection and breathing issues. He looks frail and can’t actively play with other kids. His parents wish to see him healthy and strong but the cost of the surgery is beyond their financial means. He lives in a one-room rented brick house along with five family members. Fiyaz’s father, a daily wage laborer, makes PKR 28,000 monthly. With this meager monthly income, they hardly cover the house rent, which amounts to PKR 5000, and monthly utility bills of PKR 3000. Moreover, the family is burdened with a loan of PKR 80,000, worsening the financial situation.
