Umm-e-Hani Rehman's Story

Umm-e-Hani is a sweet little girl who needs cochlear implant surgery to change her life. Without the surgery, she will be unable to learn and communicate effectively, and she will be deprived of the numerous benefits that come from being able to hear her surroundings. Her silence has devastated her family. We urge you to donate and help Umm-e-Hani to unlock the world of sounds.

Five-year-old Umm-e-Hani, a resident of Attock, has been living with congenital sensorineural hearing loss since birth. Her parents became concerned when, at the age of one, she showed no response to their voices. Seeking medical assistance, they took her to a local hospital, where she underwent various tests. After consulting with a doctor, Umm-e-Hani was diagnosed with sensorineural deafness. The doctor recommended cochlear implant surgery as the appropriate treatment option, which could improve her hearing abilities and enhance her quality of life. Cochlear implant surgery involves the implantation of a device that directly stimulates the auditory nerve, allowing individuals like Umm-e-Hani to perceive sound and potentially regain their ability to hear.

She lives with her parents and two siblings. Her father is the only breadwinner in the family and earns PKR 17,000 per month. Unfortunately, he cannot afford the surgery and is in desperate need of financial assistance. Despite the fact that his limited income cannot cover the cost of the procedure, he does not want to abandon her in a silent world. Her father said in distress:

“I am deeply concerned about the missed opportunities in my daughter’s life due to my inability to save up enough funds for her cochlear implant surgery. Your support can make a significant difference and help provide Umm-e-Hani with the chance to experience the world of sound, unlocking a brighter future for her.”

Someone told her parents about Transparent Hands and the causes we champion, and they reached out to us for help.  Now, all that is required of you is a small donation to help her gain hearing ability. We request that you support Umm-e-Hani’s cochlear implant surgery and allow her to live her life to the fullest.

Umm-e-Hani Rehman's Story

Umm-e-Hani, a five-year-old girl from Attock, had been struggling with congenital sensorineural hearing loss since birth. Her parents became concerned when she showed no response to their voices at the age of one. They sought medical assistance and she was diagnosed with sensorineural deafness. The recommended treatment was cochlear implant surgery, which could potentially improve her hearing abilities and enhance her quality of life.

However, her father, the sole provider for the family, could not afford the surgery. In their desperate need for financial assistance, they reached out to Transparent Hands.

Umm-e-Hani was admitted to Ali Medical Centre, Islamabad, where Dr. Jawad skillfully performed the cochlear implant surgery on 30-08-2023. The internal component was successfully implanted, marking a significant milestone in her journey toward hearing restoration. After just one day, she was discharged from the hospital, filled with hope and a renewed spirit.

The journey towards full hearing restoration was not yet complete. After a few weeks, the external component of the cochlear implant was meticulously fixed, allowing Umm-e-Hani to experience a world filled with sound for the first time. She was referred to dedicated speech therapists who would assist her in developing language and communication skills through speech therapy sessions.

The cochlear implant acted as a bridge to the world of sound for Umm-e-Hani, opening up limitless possibilities for education, social interaction, and a fulfilling life. The impact of this life-changing surgery was immeasurable, especially considering her family's financial limitations. It was the collective generosity of donors who supported her campaign that made this transformative experience possible. By contributing, they played a vital role in bringing the gift of hearing into Umm-e-Hani's life, creating a ripple effect that will shape her future.
