Help Us Keep Wadan’s Heart Beating
Muhammad Wadan's Story
Before we dive into the story of Wadan’s small but precious life, please know that only you can help us keep Wadan’s heart beating. Four years old Muhammad Wadan is the apple of everyone’s eyes. His rosy cheeks and sparkling eyes made him everyone’s favourite. The first few weeks of his short life went smoothly. However, after a few weeks, his mother noticed that Wadan faced a lot of trouble breathing. Moreover, he kept falling prey to chest infections. While Wadan’s grandmother blamed the evil eye, his parents took him to the doctor. The referred Muhammad Wadan to a cardiologist.
Later, after a thorough check-up, the cardiologist diagnosed him with a congenital Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD). VSD is a hole in the wall which separates the two lower chambers of the heart. The cardiologist told Wadan’s parents that to keep Wadan’s heart beating, Wadan will have to undergo open-heart surgery.
This news played havoc with his parent’s heartstrings. Wadan’s father runs a spare parts shop in his village and hardly earns PKR 20,000 per month. Thus, the hefty cost of open-heart surgery was beyond his affordability.
“Muhammad Wadan is my life. None of us can imagine a life where Wadan does not exist. In 4 years of his short life, he has become our centre, our ground to hold on. We spend each day in agony, not knowing what the future holds for my son. Please help us keep Wadan’s heart beating. Transparent Hands is our last hope.” – Muhammad Wadan’s mother

Muhammad Wadan's Story
Muhammad Wadan, aged 4 years, a resident of Mardan was suffering from repeated chest infections and dyspnea on mild exertion since birth. Upon cardiac assessment, he was diagnosed with ventricular septal defect (VSD). He was advised by his cardiologist to undergo open heart surgery for VSD closure. For this purpose, he was admitted to Ittefaq Hospital Lahore, where Dr. M. Asim Khan performed open heart surgery for VSD closure on 16.02.2021. After five days of hospital stay Muhammad Wadan was discharged in a satisfactory condition. The surgery was conducted with the support of Pakistan Children Heart foundation and other donors. A child who has had VSD closure, requires lifelong care, an optimized lifestyle and examinations by a cardiologist. Luckily now Muhammad Wadan is beyond the initial stage of treatment and is looking forward to living life to its fullest.
