Khadija Imtiaz's Story

Khadija’s illness makes it difficult for her to play like all the other girls her age. She has a deadly congenital condition and has little chance of survival if we don’t intervene. We request you to donate generously and help us save Khadija’s heart. Even a penny can make a lasting difference.

Khadija Imtiaz, a seven-year-old resident of Bahawalpur, has been suffering from dyspnea on mild exertion and chest heaviness since her childhood. After her parents noticed that Khadija was having difficulty while breathing, they took her to a doctor. Upon consultation, the doctor diagnosed her with a chest infection. Initially, the doctor gave her symptomatic treatment, but as time passed, her breathing problems grew and the medicines stopped working. They took her to many public hospitals. At one hospital, after the doctors ran a few tests, Khadija was diagnosed with Atrial Septal Defect as well as Mitral valve prolapse(MVP) along with Mitral regurgitation (MR). An atrial septal defect is a cardiac birth defect in which the upper chambers (atria) of the heart are divided by a hole in the wall (septum). The size of a hole might vary. One type of congenital cardiac defect is an atrial septal defect. The doctors advised her to undergo an ASD (Atrial Septal Defect) closure + Open Heart Surgery to repair Mitral Valve.

Khadija has a family of six and her father works in a private factory. Khadija’s father is the only person financially supporting the entire family. Her father’s monthly income is barely enough to support the family of six members. He cannot afford the hefty cost of the surgery. A friend told Khadija’s father about Transparent Hands and they visited us. It was sad to see such a bright kid unable to live her childhood to the fullest.

“I want my child to be able to play with other children. This deadly heart disease has robbed her of her childhood. I watch her unable to run, and what hurts me even more is her perception of herself as a failure. She is unable to comprehend that the problem is her sickness.” says Khadija’s Mother.

Transparent Hands has verified and registered Khadija’s case. We are determined to help her live a normal life. But it will not be possible without your support and donations. You can help us save Khadija’s heart. Therefore, we request you to donate as much as you can. Every penny counts.
