Iqra Awaits Tympanoplasty
Iqra Bibi's Story
Meet Iqra, a 19-year-old woman from Karachi, who has been experiencing recurrent episodes of pus discharge, pain, and hearing discomfort in her left ear for six months. Hearing her loved ones’ voices and communicating with them has become challenging for her. Iqra was receiving symptomatic treatment but her condition didn’t settle down. She consulted an ENT doctor. After a thorough examination, she was diagnosed with Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media (CSOM), a condition characterized by a perforated tympanic membrane and persistent drainage from the middle ear.
The doctor recommended Tympanoplasty, a surgery to fix the holes in the tympanic membrane. If the condition is left untreated, it can lead to permanent hearing loss. She tends to avoid social engagements and has become depressed and frustrated. Iqra lives in a 2-marla brick house with her six family members. She is a student and her father is unemployed. Her brother is a daily wage laborer and makes just PKR 30,000 monthly. The significant cost of the surgery is overwhelming for Iqra’s family.
A neighbor told them about Transparent Hands and they contacted us for help.
Iqra expressed her heartfelt plea as follows:
“Due to the persistent discomfort and pain in my ear, I have become restless and frustrated. I struggle to hear and experience my surroundings. My brothers work tirelessly but their income covers our basic needs only. Please help me.”
The successful tympanoplasty will decrease her physical discomfort and give her a better sense of well-being. It will improve her hearing impairment and allow her to actively participate in social gatherings.
We urge you to come forward and make a lasting impact on Iqra’s life. She desperately needs your help. Your contribution will ease her discomfort and pain, enabling her to lead a healthy life free from challenges.
Together, we can transform her life and give her a bright future.
Please Note: In certain situations, we proceed with the patient's surgery/medical procedure despite incomplete funding displayed on the website. Iqra Bibi's Story
Iqra, a 19-year-old woman from Karachi, had been suffering from repeated episodes of pus discharge, pain, and hearing discomfort in her left ear for six months. It significantly disrupted her daily activities and social interactions, resulting in feelings of frustration. She received symptomatic treatment but the relief was temporary only. After suffering for a while, Iqra decided to consult a specialist. After performing a comprehensive examination, the doctor diagnosed her with Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media (CSOM) and recommended tympanoplasty. However, the cost of surgery was overwhelming for Iqra’s family.
Iqra lived in a small brick house with her six family members. Her father was unemployed and her brother worked as a daily wage laborer and earned just PKR 30,000 per month. This income was insufficient to cover even their household expenses. The financial strain of the surgery weighed heavily over their shoulders, leaving them feeling helpless. Iqra, as a student, encountered significant difficulties in concentrating on her studies which negatively impacted her quality of life. During this challenging time, Iqra reached out to Transparent Hands and asked for assistance. Moved by her plea, we registered her case.
On 16th November 2024, Iqra was admitted to the Murshid Hospital in Karachi. Her surgery took place on the same day. Dr. Paras Naeem performed her tympanoplasty, giving new hope to Iqra. After receiving post-operative care and essential medical care, Iqra was discharged in stable condition on 18th November 2024.
Iqra was overwhelmed with happiness and she said:
“I can’t express the happiness I feel after the surgery. Living without pain has made me feel alive again, and I’m so grateful for your support. You’ve given me my life back, and I’m forever thankful for the joy you’ve brought into my world.”
Following the successful surgery, Iqra has now found relief from the severe ear pain and can hear clearly. This change in Iqra’s life was made possible through your generous support. Your contributions brought hope and healing into her life and she extends her deepest gratitude to you for your kindness.
