Chandni Azeem's Story
Chandni Azeem, a 13-year-old girl from Karachi, has been experiencing persistent throat pain for the past two years. She faces repeated episodes of sore throat and painful swallowing. Her condition has affected her ability to eat properly, speak comfortably, and focus on her studies. Concerned about her worsening health, her parents took her to a local hospital for a consultation. After thorough examination and testing, the doctor diagnosed her with Chronic Tonsillitis (inflammation of the tonsils). To treat this issue, the doctor has advised Tonsillectomy as the only effective solution.
If left untreated, chronic tonsillitis may lead to severe complications, including recurrent infections, breathing difficulties during sleep, and spread of infection to other organs. For Chandni, each passing day becomes more difficult, and without surgery, her suffering will continue.
Chandni lives in a modest rented house with her parents and four siblings. Two of her siblings attend school, while the other two are enrolled in a madrasa. Her father works at a private company and earns a monthly salary of PKR 25,000. With this meager income, PKR 7,000 is paid for rent, PKR 4,000 for utility bills, and PKR 2,600 for the children’s education. After meeting these essential expenses, nothing is left to cover the cost of the surgery. Despite working hard, Chandni’s father cannot afford the much-needed medical procedure.
