Let’s Fix Bakhtawar’s Eyesight with Cataract Surgery

Bakhtawar Abid's Story
Bakhtawar Abid, a 5-year-old girl from Multan, has been facing serious vision problems since early childhood. Her parents noticed that she struggled to recognize faces, pick up her toys, or walk confidently around the house. Deeply worried, they took her to a doctor. After a detailed medical evaluation, the doctor diagnosed her with bilateral cataract, with the right eye more severely affected. A cataract is the clouding of the natural lens of the eye. To enable her to see clearly, the doctor has advised Right Lens Matter Aspiration (LMA) followed by Intraocular Lens (IOL) implantation. However, the cost of the surgery is beyond her family’s means.
Bakhtawar’s condition has severely affected her ability to experience a normal childhood. Her poor vision prevents her from playing and exploring the world like other children her age. If left untreated, her condition may worsen and lead to complete blindness.
Bakhtawar lives in a modest home in Multan with her parents and three siblings. Her father, a laborer, earns just PKR 30,000 per month, which barely covers the family’s essential needs, including utility bills of PKR 2,500, food, and other expenses. With such limited financial means, affording the cost of this essential eye surgery is not possible for them. During this difficult time, they have turned to Transparent Hands and asked for help.
Bakhtawar’s parents said in despair:
“My daughter can’t see clearly and struggles to do simple things. We feel helpless seeing her like this. Your support can change her life.”
