Shahida Habib's Story

Shahida Habib, a 61-year-old woman from Hyderabad, has been suffering from blurry vision for the past two years. Activities like walking around her home, seeing her children’s faces, and even maintaining her hygiene have become significantly challenging for her. She went to a local hospital and consulted a doctor. After performing a detailed evaluation, the doctor diagnosed Shahida with a cataract in her right eye. A cataract is the clouding of the lens in the eye, which affects vision. To restore her vision, the doctor has advised right Phaco + IOL surgery. However, the cost of the surgery is out of her family’s financial capacity.

Her condition is getting worse with time. If left untreated, the cataract may lead to the complete loss of vision.

Shahida’s husband and son are daily wage laborers, and together, they manage to earn around PKR 30,000 per month. It’s hard for them to support a joint family of eleven members. With their insufficient monthly income, they barely manage to cover utility bills and food expenses. Shahida’s children wish to give their mother the gift of a clear vision. However, their financial constraints make it impossible for them to pay for Shahida’s life-changing eye surgery. During this difficult time, Shahida has reached out to Transparent Hands and asked for assistance.

With tears in her eyes, Shahida said:

“My eyesight is getting dim and blurry. I want to spend the remaining years of my life in peace. Due to my inability to see things clearly, I feel isolated. This eye surgery can bring back my sight. Help me before darkness takes over.”

At her old age, Shahida deserves to see the world clearly and enjoy the cherished moments of life. Together, we can brighten her world and improve her quality of life.
