Aira Khan's Story

Aira Khan, a courageous five-year-old girl from Hangu, has been battling a complex set of health conditions that have significantly impacted her daily life. Cyanosis and shortness of breath have plagued her days, making even the simplest tasks a challenge. After careful examination, doctors diagnosed her with an atrial septal defect (ASD) and right ventricular volume overload (RVVO), conditions that required urgent medical intervention. However, the high cost of surgery posed a big challenge for Aira’s father, who worked tirelessly as an office boy to support his family.

ASD closure surgery emerged as the only viable solution to restore Aira’s health and grant her a chance at a normal life. This procedure involves repairing the hole in the wall separating the heart’s chambers and allowing blood to flow properly. The surgery would alleviate the cyanosis and shortness of breath that have become constant companions for Aira. With the prospect of this life-changing surgery, Aira’s dreams of running, playing, and embracing a childhood free from limitations could finally become a reality.

The impact of Aira’s health condition on her daily life has been so evident. Simple activities that other children take for granted, such as playing with friends or attending school, have been hindered by her limited physical capabilities. Each passing day brings a reminder of the precious moments Aira is missing out on. However, the ASD closure surgery offers a glimmer of hope. It has the potential to transform Aira’s life, enabling her to reclaim her childhood, experience joy, and embrace a future full of possibilities.

To make this life-saving surgery a reality for Aira, her father, the sole breadwinner, finds himself overwhelmed by the financial burden. He is unable to afford the high cost of the surgery and is desperately seeking assistance. He said in despair:

“Aira’s days are filled with struggles. As a father, I long to see her smile without the shadow of pain. I cannot afford the cost of her surgery. I request that you join us in this battle for Aira’s health, to extend your hand and help her regain her health.”

To appeal for funds, he has turned to the Transparent Hands campaign, a beacon of hope for families in similar situations. As we join hands to support Aira’s cause, let us remember the power of compassion and generosity. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of Aira and her family, helping them overcome this hurdle and restore their hope for a brighter tomorrow.

Please Note: In certain situations, we proceed with the patient's surgery/medical procedure despite incomplete funding displayed on the website. Following the surgery/medical procedure, we persist in collecting funds and maintain the campaign on the website until funding is secured in full. Hospitals have granted us a grace period for bill payment.

Aira Khan's Story

Aira Khan, a 5-year-old innocent girl from Hangu, had been experiencing shortness of breath, cyanosis, and chest discomfort since birth. While playing with friends, she became tired easily and gasped for breath. Concerned about her condition, her parents took her to a nearby hospital a year ago, where the doctor performed echocardiography and diagnosed Aira with Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) as well as Right Ventricular Volume Overload (RVVO). The doctor recommended ASD closure surgery. However, the surgical cost was beyond her family's reach.

Aira’s parents felt helpless as they could only watch their daughter suffer. Aira lived in a small rented house with her nine family members. Her father, Khalid Rehman was the sole breadwinner in the family, worked long hours as an office assistant, and could make just enough to cover their essentials. Aira’s parents were worried about the outcomes if they couldn’t provide her with the necessary surgery. They wanted to give Aira a healthy life but their financial constraints became a huge barrier. A day came when Khalid’s friend told him about Transparent Hands. With hope in his heart, Khalid turned to Transparent Hands and asked for assistance. Moved by his plea, we registered Aira’s case.

On November 3, 2024, Aira was admitted to the Ittefaq Hospital in Lahore. Her surgery was scheduled for November 4, 2024. Dr. Asim Khan carefully managed her case and performed ASD closure surgery, giving Aira a new lease on life. After successful surgery, Aira stayed in the hospital for four days and received post-operative care. On November 8, 2024, she was finally discharged in stable condition from the hospital.

Aira’s parents said with tears of happiness in their eyes:

“Living in constant discomfort had taken the joy out of Aira’s life. We prayed day and night for her recovery. Now, after the surgery, she feels energetic and happy. She can play with her friends and gain proper weight like them. You gave her the greatest gift – a life full of happiness. Thanks for being there for her!”

Aira is recovering and this drastic change in her life was made possible just because of your generous support. Now, she can enjoy the cherished moments of her childhood, perform efficiently in school, and continue to thrive in life. Her family extends deepest gratitude to you and the Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation for supporting them during their time of need. You made a life-changing difference!
