Muhammad Saleem Akhtar, aged sixty-one years, a resident of Faisalabad, has been battling diabetes for a long time. Saleem developed a foot wound which was infected later and became gangrenous. Over time, the infection spread to his leg. He was in pain for two months. Then the doctor advised him to get his right leg amputated above knee level.
Saleem, his wife, and their two children are living with his elder brother and his family. Due to Saleem’s condition, he is unable to earn a living and completely relies on others for financial assistance and basic needs. He is now having difficulty doing the most basic tasks for himself. Saleem came to Transparent Hands with the request of assistance with his right below knee Amputation. This Amputation is crucial for Muhammad Saleem as it will prevent the infection from spreading further in his body. Saleem shared his ordeal with Transparent Hands in the following manner:
“My life has taken such a tragic turn and this infection spread has got me in shock. I don’t know how I will ever overcome this. My only concern now is to get back on my feet and to be able to provide for my family. I don’t want to fall prey to despair. Please help.”

Muhammad Saleem's Story
Muhammad Saleem Akhtar, a 61-year-old resident of Faisalabad, was suffering from a diabetic foot. The doctors amputated his right leg below knee level. After the amputation, Muhammad Saleem Akhtar needed an artificial leg to continue his daily chores. For this purpose, he was sent to Hope Rehabilitation Center where he received his prosthesis placement after consultation with Dr. Khalid Niazi on 18.02.2022. He can easily walk now and do his daily routine work.
