Shafa Needs Open-Heart Surgery to Reclaim Her Life

Shafa Usman's Story
Shafa Usman, a 6-year-old girl from Lahore, has been battling with severe health challenges since birth. She experiences persistent shortness of breath, fatigue, chest pain, and poor weight gain, making it difficult for her to keep up with other children of her age. Her weak body struggles with even the simplest activities, and her parents live in constant fear for her well-being. Shafa’s parents took her to a hospital, where doctors conducted diagnostic tests and a thorough evaluation. After careful assessment, the doctor diagnosed her with Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) and Pulmonary Atresia (PA). These are life-threatening congenital heart conditions that restrict blood flow and oxygen supply to her body. Her BTS surgery was already done. Now, in her follow up visits, The doctor advised open-heart surgery for Rastelli procedure but Shafa’s family can’t afford the surgery.
Without this surgery, Shafa’s condition may continue to deteriorate, increasing her risk of heart failure, severe infections, and dangerously low oxygen levels, which can be fatal. The longer she waits, the more difficult it will be to recover.
Shafa lives in a small house with her parents and two elder siblings. Her father is currently unemployed, leaving the burden of providing for the family on her mother, who earns a meager income. Despite her efforts, she barely manages to cover household expenses. Their financial constraints make it impossible for them to afford their daughter’s necessary surgery. A day came in their life when a well-wisher told them about Transparent Hands. Her family contacted us and asked for help.
Shafa’s mother shared her worries by saying:
“Every day, I watch my daughter struggle to breathe, and she is unable to play like other children. It breaks my heart to know that her condition is worsening. I just want her to have a chance to live a normal, and healthy life. Please help us save her.”
Shafa’s life depends on your generosity. With your support, she can undergo the much-needed open-heart surgery to lead a normal childhood free from constant pain and exhaustion. Let’s work together to bring hope to this innocent child and her struggling family.

Shafa Usman's Story
Shafa Usman, a 6-year-old girl from Lahore, had faced serious health challenges since birth. She suffered from persistent shortness of breath, fatigue, and poor weight gain. Her parents lived each day in fear, watching their little girl struggle. Determined to find a solution, Shafa’s parents took her to a local hospital, where doctors ran several diagnostic tests. After a thorough evaluation, Shafa was diagnosed with a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) and Pulmonary Atresia (PA). While she had previously undergone a BTS surgery, her condition still required a Rastelli procedure. However, the cost of this complex surgery was far beyond what her family could afford.
Shafa lived in a modest home with her parents and two elder siblings. Her father was unemployed, and her mother struggled to provide for the household on a minimal income. They barely managed to cover utility bills and food expenses. Due to their financial constraints, affording to pay for Shafa’s surgery was impossible for them. During this moment of despair, Shafa’s family reached out to Transparent Hands. Understanding the nature of her condition, we registered her case.
On February 26, 2025, Shafa was admitted to Ittefaq Hospital in Lahore. Shafa received pre-operative care, and her surgery was scheduled for March 1, 2025. Her procedure was expertly performed by Dr. Asim. The operation was a success. After receiving post-operative care and monitoring, Shafa was discharged in stable condition on March 7, 2025.
Shafa’s mother expressed her heartfelt gratitude as follows:
“This surgery gave our daughter the life she was always meant to live. We had no resources, no hope, and no way forward. You made the surgery possible and saved her life.”
Shafa is now full of hope, and looking forward to a future filled with laughter, and health.
Her family extends their deepest gratitude to you and the Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation for making this life-saving surgery possible.
