Shahbaz Ali's Story
Meet Shahbaz Ali, a 49-year-old resident of Lahore, who has been battling Salivary Gland Carcinoma for 1.5 years. He had a lump below his right ear which was causing pain and discomfort. His condition was accompanied by facial pain, tenderness, weakness, and jaw spasms. Through the support of Transparent Hands, his Total Parotidectomy surgery was performed on May 21, 2024. Now, his doctor has advised radiotherapy to beat the cancer fully.
Shahbaz faced extreme difficulty while opening his mouth fully. He is scared because his family depends on him. He desperately wants to undergo radiotherapy to complete his treatment for cancer. However, the significant cost of radiotherapy is overwhelming for him. Shahbaz Ali, the sole breadwinner in the family, works as a security guard and earns just PKR 14,000. He has four children and all are studying. He lives in a modest two-room brick house. With his insufficient monthly income, he barely manages the utility bills amounting to PKR 2000 per month and his children’s monthly educational expenses of PKR 4000.
The cost of the surgery is simply beyond his financial means. In his time of need, he contacted Transparent Hands and asked for help again.

He went to a doctor for a follow-up and was advised to undergo radiotherapy to beat the cancer fully. However, the cost of the treatment was beyond his financial capacity. Shahbaz was scared because his family was dependent upon him for living expenses. He is the sole breadwinner in the family, works as a security guard, and earns just PKR 14,000.
