Shams Uddin's Story

Shams Uddin suffers from Soft Tissue Sarcoma. Shams Uddin, a 65 year old male, lives in Lahore with his wife and son. He was suffering from swelling in his left thigh. He also felt pain in it. It was a matter of days, the swelling kept increasing and the pain gradually became unbearable too.

He visited the doctor where a lump in his left thigh was found. The doctor advised him to get a tru-cut biopsy for a proper diagnosis. Later after the report of the biopsy, Shams was diagnosed to have been suffering from soft tissue sarcoma. A soft tissue sarcoma is a rare type of cancer that begins in the tissues. This includes muscle, fat, blood vessels, nerves, tendons and the lining of joints. Soft tissue sarcoma can occur anywhere in the human body. Surgical removal is the most common treatment. Post-operative radiation also may be recommended. Presently, the doctor has advised him to undergo Compartment Resection of his left thigh where the surgeon will remove and clear the lump. Whether radiations are required or not, will be decided at a later stage.

As Shams Uddin suffers from Soft Tissue Sarcoma, he has been living through this enormous pain every day for the past 10 years of his life to the point where he cannot walk properly anymore. His son is a laborer at a factory who hardly earns PKR. 15,000 a month. In these circumstances he is unable to afford this surgical procedure. Shams shared his views with us in the following words.

“ I don’t want to be a burden for my son and his wife. I am old and frail and this pain is unendurable.” Said Shams Uddin to Transparent Hands.

Shams Uddin's Story

Shams ud Din, a sixty-five years old, living in Lahore, had been suffering from swelling and pain for the last ten years of his life. Upon diagnosis, he was diagnosed to have a Soft Tissue Sarcoma of the left thigh. He was advised to undergo a Compartment Resection. Therefore, he was sent to Akram Medical Complex. His surgery was performed by Dr. Ahmed Fawad on 12-10-2021. He was discharged two days later in a stable condition. Shams Ud din is now relieved.
