Hania’s parents are extremely concerned about their daughter’s future. Not only is Hania suffering from hearing loss, but her parents are also unable to afford the treatment she needs. Their eyes well up with tears when they see their little girl struggling to communicate with them. Four-year-old Hania Iftikhar, a resident of Islamabad, was born with sensorineural hearing loss. At first, her parents were not aware of her condition. Later, when she could not respond to their verbal cues and loud noises, her parents took her to a hospital. The doctor advised Hania to get a hearing device, but her parents could not afford it. Now, as a permanent solution, the doctor has advised Hania to undergo Cochlear Implant surgery. A cochlear implant is a surgically implanted neuroprosthetic device that will give Hania a modified sense of sound.

Unfortunately, Hania’s parents cannot afford the hefty cost of a Cochlear Implant surgery. Despite long hours and hard work, her father hardly manages to earn PKR 30,000 per month. This income is barely enough to keep the household running. Therefore, he is in no position to save up for his daughter’s surgery. Hania’s father told us:

“I feel helpless when I see my kid constantly struggling to convey her thoughts to us. I want her to live her life like all the other kids who don’t have to deal with hearing loss. I want her to be successful and attend school.”
