Support Muhammad Jan’s Cochlear Implant Surgery
Muhammad Jan's Story
In the remote village of Khuzdar, Balochistan, a young boy named Muhammad Jan faces an extraordinary challenge from birth – a profound hearing loss that has robbed him of the ability to fully engage with the world around him. For two long years, his parents remained unaware of his condition, until they finally sought medical attention when he was just a year old.
Upon visiting the nearest hospital, the doctors delivered a heartbreaking diagnosis – Muhammad Jan required a cochlear implant, a life-changing surgical procedure that could restore his hearing. However, the financial burden of this treatment quickly became a daunting obstacle for the family.
Muhammad Jan’s father, a daily wager earning a modest 20,000 rupees per month, is the sole breadwinner for the household. With a young family to support, including his elderly parents, the financial constraints have left them unable to afford the surgical expenses.
Adding to the family’s woes, Muhammad Jan’s father is also burdened by a loan of 50,000 rupees, further straining their limited resources. “We want nothing more than to see our son regain his hearing, but the cost of the surgery is simply too much for us to handle,” the father expressed with deep anguish.
Tragically, this family’s story is not uncommon in the remote regions of Balochistan, where access to specialized medical care remains a luxury beyond the reach of many. Yet, Muhammad Jan’s resilience and his parents’ unwavering love know no bounds, and they have turned to Transparent Hands, a beacon of hope in their time of need.
Through the support of Transparent Hands, Muhammad Jan can undergo the life-altering cochlear implant surgery, which will open up a world of sound and connection that he has never known. This transformative procedure has the power to not only restore his hearing but also unlock a future filled with endless opportunities.

Muhammad Jan's Story
Muhammad Jan, a 2-year-old boy from Khuzdar, Balochistan, had been living in a world of silence since birth. He never responded to his parent’s voices or the sounds of toys. Jan’s parents received a medical consultation from a doctor, who, after a thorough examination diagnosed Jan with congenital sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). The doctor recommended cochlear implant surgery to open the door to the world of sounds for him. But Jan’s family couldn’t afford the cost of the surgery.
Jan lives in a two-room mud house with his four family members. His father is the sole provider for the family and earns PKR 20,000 monthly. The thought of their son continuing to live in silence was heartbreaking for Jan’s parents. They were already surviving in extreme poverty and couldn't pay for Jan’s surgery. In this dark hour, Jan’s parents learned about Transparent Hands and they reached out to us. Understanding the need for Jan’s surgery and the family’s financial hardships, we promptly registered his case.
On June 7, 2024, Muhammad Jan was admitted to the GIMS hospital in Gambat. The surgery was scheduled for June 8, 2024. Dr. Maqbool skillfully performed the cochlear implant surgery and inserted the internal component of the implant. Jan was discharged on June 9, 2024.' The external component was installed after six weeks of the surgery. His journey to recovery and introduction to a world of sounds is ongoing with speech therapy sessions. It will help him learn to navigate this new, vibrant world that was once out of his reach.
Jan’s parents shared their emotions as follows:
“We don’t have words to describe our happiness. It was unbelievable when our son heard us and responded to us for the first time. We are thankful for the help we received in this time of need.”
