Support Tahira Chirag’s Subtotal Thyroidectomy
Tahira Chirag's Story
Tahira Chirag, a 49-year-old resident of Lahore, has been struggling with growing neck swelling for the past 15 years. The primarily small swelling has gradually grown in size over the past 6 months, causing a lot of uneasiness and anxiety for Tahira and her family.
Recently, Tahira visited a nearby local hospital where a general surgeon, after a thorough examination and diagnostic tests, diagnosed her with a simple multinodular goiter (MNG) as a result of an enlarged thyroid gland containing multiple nodules or lumps. The doctor advised Tahira to undergo a subtotal thyroidectomy. This surgical procedure removes an extensive portion of the thyroid gland while keeping a minor amount intact to produce the essential hormones.

Tahira said it in a depressed tone:
I’ve been battling this swelling for a long time, and now it’s getting harder and harder to bear the pain. My family cannot afford the surgery, even though I want to have it done. I’m concerned that I won’t be able to support my family and carry out my duties as a wife and mother.”

Tahira Chirag's Story
Tahira Chirag, a 49-year-old woman from Lahore, had a swelling in her neck for six months. Her condition was giving her extreme pain and discomfort. The swelling kept growing in size and became more painful, making it difficult for Tahira to even swallow or speak at times. Concerned about her condition, she received a medical consultation from a doctor. The doctor conducted some medical tests and an ultrasound scan and diagnosed her with Multinodular Goiter (MNG). The doctor recommended Subtotal Thyroidectomy, where a major portion of the thyroid gland is removed to alleviate the symptoms and prevent further complications. However, the significant cost of the surgery was beyond her family’s financial means.
Tahira lives in a modest brick house with her joint family of seven members. Her husband and son are daily wage laborers and make PKR 20,000 monthly. With this meager monthly income, they hardly make ends meet. The surgical cost was an additional financial burden for the family. After struggling for a while, Tahira found Transparent Hands.
