Muhammad Hamza's Story

Muhammad Hamza, an 8-year-old boy from Bajaur, KPK, has been experiencing shortness of breath, palpitations, and chest discomfort since birth. Hamza cannot play and grow like other kids as any mild to moderate physical activity makes him gasp for breath. Concerned about his condition, his parents took him to a nearby hospital and consulted a doctor. The doctor conducted multiple medical tests and diagnosed Hamza with Transitional Atrioventricular Septal Defect (AVSD) – a heart defect characterized by an abnormal opening between the heart’s chambers affecting both atria and ventricles and Pulmonary Hypertension (PHT).

To allow Hamza’s heart to function properly, the doctor recommended an Angiography and Open-Heart Surgery for Complete Atrioventricular Canal Defect (CAVC). However, Hamza’s family cannot afford his life-saving surgery. Hamza is facing a delay in his cognitive, physical, and neurological development. If his condition is left untreated, it can lead to life-threatening complications. He will not be able to beat the disease and may lose his life.

Hamza lives in a three-room rented mud house with a joint family of sixteen members. Hamza has five siblings, four of whom are currently studying. His father and uncle both work as drivers, with a combined monthly income of PKR 42,000. With this insufficient monthly income, they barely manage the house rent of PKR 6000, utility bills totaling PKR 2000 alongside educational expenses of PKR 2500. Due to their financial hardships, affording the costly surgery is impossible for them. During this time of need, Hamza’s family reached out to Transparent Hands and asked us for help.

Hamza’s parents described their plea as follows:

“We just want our son to live a normal life like other children. We feel helpless as we don’t have enough money to pay for Hamza’s surgery. Please help us and save our son’s life.”

The open-heart surgery for CAVC will allow his heart to function properly and significantly improve his overall health and physical capabilities. We ask you to be generous and help Hamza get the surgery he desperately needs. Your contributions, no matter how big or small, will have a significant impact on Hamza’s life.

Muhammad Hamza's Story

Muhammad Hamza, an 8-year-old boy from Bajaur, KPK, had been battling with shortness of breath, palpitations, and chest discomfort since birth. These symptoms severely restricted his ability to play and grow like other children. Even mild physical activities left him gasping for breath, and his condition worsened with time. Deeply worried, Hamza’s parents consulted a doctor at a nearby hospital. After extensive medical tests, he was diagnosed with Transitional Atrioventricular Septal Defect (AVSD) and Pulmonary Hypertension (PHT). The doctor recommended angiography and open-heart surgery for Complete Atrioventricular Canal Defect (CAVC) to save Hamza’s life. However, the surgical cost was out of his family’s reach.

Hamza lived in a modest rented mud house with a joint family of sixteen members. His father and uncle worked as drivers and earned just PKR 42,000 monthly. His family struggled financially. With a meager income, affording the high cost of surgery seemed impossible. After struggling for a while, his parents learned about Transparent Hands and reached out for help. Moved by their plea, we registered Hamza’s case and ensured that he would receive the necessary medical care.

On November 18, 2024, Hamza was admitted to the Ittefaq Hospital in Lahore. Dr. Asim Khan performed his life-saving open-heart surgery on November 20, 2024. The procedure repaired the abnormal openings in his heart and addressed his pulmonary hypertension. Hamza stayed in the hospital for four days to recover under the careful supervision of the medical team. He was discharged in stable condition on November 24, 2024.

Hamza’s parents shared their joy as follows:

“Our son’s life has completely changed. Watching him struggle every day was a nightmare, but now he is full of energy and can breathe freely. We are forever grateful to you for making this possible.”

Today, Hamza is recovering well. He can walk, play, and attend school without the limitations he once faced. Hamza’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to you and the Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation for contributing to this life-saving cause. Together, you gave Hamza a second chance at life.
