Arslan Ahmad's Story

Arslan Ahmad, aged four, a resident of Kasur was experiencing repeated episodes of chest infection since birth. Upon cardiac evaluation he was diagnosed to have been suffering from Atrial Septal Defect (ASD). ASD is a congenital condition in which a hole is present in the wall between the two upper chambers of the heart. The hole increases the amount of blood that flows through the lungs. A few symptoms of ASD include, fatigue and shortness of breath upon physical activity and heart murmur. A large, long-standing atrial septal defect is liable to damage the heart and lungs. Open Heart Surgery is advised to repair his atrial septal defects in order to prevent ongoing complications. Therefore, Arslan Ahmad has to undergo ASD closure by his cardiologist. But unfortunately his family is unable to afford the said surgical procedure. His father share their pain in the following words:

“I am a laborer by profession and earn PKR. 15,000 per month. With this meagre amount I have to provide for my parents, wife and two children and also save some for expenditure on Arslan’s wellbeing. In these circumstances I can not afford to fund his surgery.”

Arslan Ahmad's Story

Arslan Ahmed, aged 4 years, faced difficulty in breathing upon mild exertion. His nails and lips also used to turn blue. On medical consultation, he was diagnosed with an atrial septal defect (ASD). The physician advised ASD closure for him. For this purpose, Arslan was admitted to The University of Lahore Teaching Hospital and his open heart surgery was performed by Dr. Faiz Rasool on 25.05.2021. He stayed in the hospital for four days and was discharged in a stable condition. Arslan’s health has improved a great deal since his surgery.
