Zarina Awaits Surgery to Remove Her Neck Lump

Zarina Babar's Story
Meet Zarina Babar, a 35-year-old woman from Lahore, who is suffering from pain and swelling in the front of her neck. Activities like eating and swallowing have become significantly challenging for her. The lump is continuously increasing in size and disfiguring her neck. For medical relief, she went to a nearby hospital. After performing an ultrasound scan and some lab tests, the doctor diagnosed her with a cold nodule – a thyroid nodule that does not produce thyroid hormone. To treat this issue and remove the unusual growth of cells, the doctor has recommended left Lobectomy and Isthmusectomy – the removal of the left lobe of the thyroid gland along with the isthmus, the tissue connecting both lobes. Unfortunately, the cost of the surgery is overwhelming for her family.
If Zarina’s condition is left untreated, the cold nodule may continue to grow and potentially lead to compression of nearby structures. It may also increase the risk of developing thyroid cancer especially if the nodule is malignant.
Zarina lives in a modest rented home with her husband and three children. Zarina is a housewife and her husband is a daily wage laborer and makes just PKR 40,000 per month. Their house rent of PKR 10,000, in addition to the utility bills of PKR 4000 and children’s school fees of PKR 3000, takes up a significant portion of their income. It leaves them with no savings to pay for Zarina’s medical expenses. During this challenging time, Zarina contacted Transparent Hands and asked for assistance.
Zarina expressed her heartfelt plea as follows:
“I am afraid that my illness can turn into cancer. If I don’t get the surgery, I will not be able to beat the disease. This disease is getting worse and I am experiencing immense discomfort. We don’t have enough money to pay for this surgery. Please help me as much as you can. Your kindness can change my life.”
This surgery will be life-changing for Zarina and she would be able to fully perform her responsibilities as a mother and as a wife. We have registered her case and need your support to help her overcome this disease. Only you can help her overcome the worsening illness and have a fulfilling life.
Let’s stand together and empower Zarina during this difficult time!

Zarina Babar's Story
Zarina Babar, a 35-year-old woman from Lahore, had been suffering from persistent pain and swelling in the front of her neck for months. What began as a mild discomfort gradually became a major obstacle in her daily life. Basic tasks like eating and swallowing became increasingly difficult. Worried about her worsening condition, Zarina visited a nearby hospital to seek medical help. After undergoing a detailed ultrasound and several lab tests, the doctors diagnosed her with a cold nodule — a non-functioning thyroid nodule that does not produce hormones. To manage her condition, her doctor advised a left lobectomy with isthmusectomy, but the surgical cost was out of her family’s reach.
Zarina lives with her husband and three children in a modest rented house in Lahore. She is a dedicated housewife who manages the household while her husband works hard as a daily wage laborer, earning just PKR 40,000 per month. Their limited income is barely enough to cover rent, groceries, school fees, and other basic needs, leaving no room for major medical expenses. Desperate for help, Zarina reached out to Transparent Hands. After carefully reviewing her case, we registered her.
Zarina was admitted to Evercare Hospital on March 24, 2025, where her diagnosis was reviewed to multinodular goiter and subtotal thyroidectomy was performed by Dr. Ahmed Fawad. The operation went smoothly, and she was discharged in stable condition on March 26, 2025.
Zarina expressed her gratitude as follows:
“I used to feel a constant weight on my neck. Every meal and every word I spoke came with pain and fear. But now, I feel light, relieved, and hopeful. Thank you for giving me a chance to live comfortably again.”
Zarina is now free from the discomfort and anxiety that had been consuming her life. She is recovering well and feeling more confident each day.
This life-changing surgery was made possible by your kind support. Thank you for giving Zarina the gift of health, comfort, and hope for a better tomorrow.
