Sultanat Bibi's Story

Sultanat Bibi, a 68-year-old woman from Swat, has been experiencing pain and swelling in her right knee joint for a long time. The discomfort in her knee has progressively worsened, making standing, walking, and performing daily activities increasingly difficult. Concerned about her worsening condition, Sultanat Bibi consulted a doctor. After performing a thorough evaluation and diagnostic tests, the doctor diagnosed her with Osteoarthritis in her right knee. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease that causes cartilage breakdown, leading to pain, swelling, and reduced joint function. To restore her mobility and relieve her pain, the doctor recommended a right-sided Total Knee Replacement (TKR) surgery.

 If Sultanat Bibi does not undergo surgery, she may experience various complications, including joint deformity, further cartilage damage, and increased risk of falls. This will make her dependent on others for even minor tasks.

Sultanat Bibi’s family is facing severe financial challenges that make affording this necessary surgery difficult. Her son is the sole earning member of the household. He is married and has two children who are currently studying. Additionally, Sultanat Bibi’s husband suffers from Parkinson’s disease, requiring ongoing care and support. The family’s monthly expenses include utility bills of PKR 3,500 and educational expenses of PKR 10,000 for the children’s schooling. Given these financial burdens, they can’t afford Sultanat’s life-changing surgery.

 Sultanat Bibi expressed her heartfelt feelings as follows:

“Every step I take is filled with unbearable pain. I wish to walk freely and live without being a burden on my loved ones. The cost of this surgery is something that my family can’t afford. Kindly help me undergo the surgery so that I can get rid of this pain and lead a healthy life.”
