Ghazala Yasmeen, a 37-year-old woman from Chakwal, has been living with increasing discomfort due to a growing lump in her lower abdomen. Eighteen months ago, she underwent a hysterectomy. In the months that followed, she noticed a swelling developing near the surgical site. What started as a minor bulge has now grown into a painful lump that causes her extreme discomfort, especially while sitting or performing daily tasks.

Recently, she visited a doctor at a nearby hospital. After a medical evaluation, Ghazala was diagnosed with incisional hernia. It is a condition where tissues push through a weakened spot in the abdominal muscles, often resulting from surgical procedures like her past hysterectomy. The doctor has strongly advised a mesh repair surgery to treat the hernia and prevent further complications.

Without this surgery, her condition will worsen. It may lead to serious complications such as a strangulated hernia, where the blood supply to the intestine is cut off. This may cause potentially life-threatening damage to her intestines, requiring emergency surgery.

Ghazala lives in a modest home with her husband and three children. Her husband works at a local chicken shop, earning only PKR 25,000 a month. With this limited income, they cover their utility bills of PKR 1,500 and educational expenses of PKR 4,000 for their children. Despite their best efforts, the cost of the recommended surgery is out of their reach.

Ghazala said in despair:

“The pain from this swelling has made it difficult for me to sit or move around. I can’t manage my daily tasks or care for my children like before. We cannot afford the surgery. I’m reaching out with the hope that your support can help me get better.”
