Gul Muhammad's Story
Gul Muhammad, a 54-year-old man from Karachi, has been suffering from pain and discomfort in his upper abdominal region for the past year. His daily life has been overshadowed by persistent nausea, vomiting, and sharp pain on the right side of his abdomen. These symptoms have grown worse with time, making it difficult for him to work and support his family. Recently, he visited a doctor at a nearby hospital. After performing an ultrasound scan and some necessary lab tests, the doctor diagnosed Gul Muhammad with Cholelithiasis (Gallstones), a condition that occurs when hard deposits form in the gallbladder and obstruct the normal flow of bile. His doctor has strongly recommended a Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, a surgical procedure to remove the gallbladder and relieve his symptoms.
If Gul Muhammad does not undergo the surgery soon, his condition may lead to serious complications such as:
Acute cholecystitis (inflammation of the gallbladder)
Biliary obstruction
Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
Sepsis
Despite his suffering, Gul Muhammad continues to drive his rickshaw daily to earn around PKR 15,000 per month. His son, who works as a tailor, earns about PKR 10,000, and another son earns PKR 15,000 from a shoe shop. Together, the household income barely reaches PKR 40,000, while they pay PKR 19,000 for monthly rent. Additionally, one of Gul Muhammad’s sons is disabled and currently undergoing treatment. The family is also burdened with a loan of PKR 200,000, making it impossible to afford the cost of the surgery.
Gul Muhammad said in despair:
“I try to keep going for my family, but the pain is becoming unbearable. We already have too many challenges. I just want to be healthy enough to earn and look after my children. Kindly help me get this surgery so I can find relief.”
