Change Hanifa’s Future with Tonsillectomy

Bibi Hanifa's Story

Bibi Hanifa, a 12-year-old girl from Karachi, has been suffering from repeated episodes of throat pain since birth. She also experiences frequent fever, which has significantly affected her ability to focus on her studies. Activities like swallowing and breathing have become difficult for her. Moreover, her illness has also impacted her ability to sleep peacefully at night. Recently, her parents took her to a nearby hospital and consulted a doctor. After a detailed medical evaluation, the doctor diagnosed Hanifa with Chronic Tonsillitis – a persistent inflammation of the tonsils. To ease her discomfort, the doctor has advised a tonsillectomy. However, the cost of the surgery is beyond her family’s financial means.

If left untreated, Hanifa’s chronic tonsillitis will diminish her quality of life. It may lead to complications like:

·         Peritonsillar abscess

·         Tonsillar enlargement

·         Spread of infection to other organs

Hanifa has five siblings who are studying. Her father, the sole breadwinner in the family, works as a security guard and brings in just PKR 30,000 per month. They face immense financial hardships. With their utility bills amounting to PKR 2000, children’s school fees of PKR 3000, and managing the living expenses of five children, they are unable to afford this life-changing surgery. Given their financial situation, they have reached out to Transparent Hands and requested assistance. Hanifa’s parents expressed their plea as follows:

 “Hanifa has been suffering from this disease for a long time. She faces difficulty while eating, breathing, and sleeping. As parents, we wish to give her a healthy future, but we are already surviving in poverty and can’t afford her surgery. We desperately need your support during this tough time.”
