Zainab Atta's Story

Zainab Atta, a 1-year-old girl from Dera Ismail Khan, has been suffering from shortness of breath and chest discomfort since birth. She is unable to gain proper weight like other children of her age. Activities like crying or feeding make it difficult for her to breathe normally. Recently, her parents took her to a local hospital and consulted a doctor. After performing a series of tests and examinations, the doctor diagnosed Zainab with Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) and Pulmonary Stenosis (PS). It is a condition where a hole in the wall between the heart’s lower chambers (ventricles) exists, along with a narrowing of the pulmonary valve.

To correct her heart defect, the doctor has advised open-heart surgery for total correction. However, her family can’t afford her surgery. If Zainab’s condition is left untreated, it may lead to:

·         Irreversible damage to the heart and lungs

·         Increased risk of heart failure

·         Life-threatening complications

Zainab lives in a small mud house with her parents and three siblings. Her father, the sole breadwinner in the family, works as a daily wage laborer and earns just PKR 22,000 per month. With this meager income, they struggle to cover their utility bills of PKR 1000 and the living expenses of five family members. Due to their financial hardships, they can’t afford Zainab’s costly surgery. During this time of need, they have turned to Transparent Hands and asked for help.

Zainab’s parents expressed their heartfelt plea as follows:

“Our daughter’s life is in danger. As parents, it is unbearable for us to see her suffering, and we feel helpless to do anything about it. Zainab’s condition is worsening, and we don’t have enough money to pay for her life-saving heart surgery. You can help Zainab undergo the surgery.”

The clock is ticking for Zainab. She deserves to live a healthy life. Be a source of hope for Zainab and donate now to provide her with much-needed heart surgery.
