Muhammad Akram's Story
Muhammad Akram, a 48-year-old man from Lahore, is suffering from pain and discomfort in his right hip joint. The pain has worsened over time, taking away his ability to walk without support. Even sitting for a short while causes him significant discomfort. This condition has limited his mobility and made it difficult for him to carry out his daily activities. Concerned about his deteriorating health, Muhammad Akram consulted a doctor. After careful evaluation and diagnostic tests, the doctor diagnosed him with Osteoarthritis (OA) of the right hip joint. It is a degenerative joint disease where the cartilage breaks down, causing pain, stiffness, and reduced movement. To restore his mobility and relieve him from pain, the doctor advised a right-sided Total Hip Replacement (THR) surgery.
Without this surgery, Akram’s condition will continue to worsen. It may result in joint deformity, disability, and complete dependence on others. However, Akram can’t afford his surgery.
Akram’s illness has already started affecting his work. He is the only earning member of his family and works as a daily wage laborer. He earns PKR 25,000 per month. Out of which PKR 1,500 is spent on utility bills, while the remaining amount is barely enough to cover food and other needs for his wife and two children. With such limited income, arranging the high cost of hip replacement surgery is not possible for him. This financial hardship, combined with his deteriorating health, has placed a heavy burden on the family.
With a heavy heart, Muhammad Akram shared his plea as follows:
“For a long time, I have been living with unbearable hip pain. I cannot sit, walk, or work without discomfort. As the sole breadwinner, I worry about my children’s future, but I cannot afford this surgery. I request you to please help me get my treatment.”
