Asia Firdous's Story

Asia Firdous, a 53-year-old woman from Okara, is suffering from heavy menstrual bleeding and irregular menstrual cycles. She also experiences pain, weakness, and fatigue, which makes it difficult for her to perform routine tasks and take care of her children. Worried about her condition, she went to a nearby hospital and consulted a doctor. After performing an ultrasound scan and some lab tests, the doctor diagnosed Asia with Uterine Fibroids. It refers to the presence of non-cancerous growths in the uterus. To treat this issue, the doctor has advised Total Abdominal Hysterectomy (TAH) and Bilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy (BSO). However, the surgical cost is overwhelming for her family.

If Asia’s condition is left untreated, it may lead to various complications such as anemia. Moreover, the fibroids can grow and may develop into cancer.

Asia lives in a modest home with her husband and four children. Her husband, the sole breadwinner in the family, works as a daily wage laborer and makes just PKR 25,000 per month. This income is insufficient to cover their utility bills, amounting to PKR 2000, educational expenses of PKR 5000, and grocery expenses. Their financial situation is stretched thin and they can’t afford her surgery. During this time of need, Asia has contacted Transparent Hands and asked for help.

Asia Firdous expressed her plea as follows:

“This illness has left me weak and unable to care for my family properly. The constant bleeding and pain are exhausting. My husband tries his best, but we cannot afford this surgery. I request you to support me in getting the treatment so I can live a healthier life.”

With your support, she can be relieved of her suffering.
