Mai Mumtaz's Story

Mai Mumtaz, a 49-year-old woman from Karachi, has been experiencing pain due to a lump in her right breast for the past six months. It has significantly affected her daily life, making even the simplest tasks a struggle. Additionally, the swelling and discomfort in her right breast make it difficult for her to sleep peacefully at night. She went to a local hospital and consulted a doctor. After performing a thorough examination, the doctor diagnosed her with right breast cancer. Breast carcinoma is a type of cancer that originates in the breast tissue, presenting as a lump or other changes in the breast. To restore her quality of life, the doctor advised Modified Radical Mastectomy (MRM). However, the financial burden of this critical treatment is far beyond her means.

Without timely surgery, Mumtaz’s condition will deteriorate rapidly. The cancer may spread to other parts of her body, leading to life-threatening complications. Delaying the surgery may also reduce the chances of successful treatment, putting her life at severe risk.

Mai Mumtaz lives in a rented house with her husband and their six children. Her husband, a retired worker, relies on a monthly pension of PKR 15,000. Their son works at a private company and contributes to the household, bringing the total family income to PKR 50,000. With a house rent of PKR 15,000, utility bills of PKR 5000, and additional living expenses, they are struggling to make ends meet. Among their six children, one son and one daughter are pursuing their education, and the other ones are married. The overwhelming cost of breast cancer surgery is beyond their reach, leaving Mumtaz and her family feeling helpless in this difficult time. Mumtaz contacted Transparent Hands and asked for help.

Mumtaz shared her heartfelt plea as follows:

“I want to live without this constant pain. My family depends on me, and I wish to be there for them and to care for my children. Your support can help me fight this battle and reclaim my health. Please help me during this time of need.”

With your generous contributions, we can provide Mai Mumtaz with the much-needed treatment. Let’s work together and give her a chance to have a healthier future. Your support can make all the difference in her life.

Mai Mumtaz's Story

Mai Mumtaz, a 49-year-old woman from Ghotki, Sindh, had been experiencing pain due to the lump in her right breast. As her condition worsened, her daily activities became more challenging. Even carrying out simple household chores became difficult. She visited a local hospital where the doctor conducted some tests and diagnosed Mai Mumtaz with right-sided breast cancer and recommended Modified Radical Mastectomy (MRM). However, Mai Mumtaz and her family didn’t have the means to afford the cost of the surgery.

Mai Mumtaz and her family live in a small rented two-marla house. She has six children. Her husband is a retired worker. Her son is the only breadwinner who works at a private company and earns just PKR 50,000 a month. The only other source of income is her husband's pension, which is PKR 15,000. The family pays PKR 15,000 for rent, and after meeting the monthly household expenses, they are unable to save for medical expenses. Therefore, Mai Mumtaz and her family couldn't afford the recommended surgery. While Mai Mumtaz felt hopeless, her family reached out to Transparent Hands for help. After thoroughly reviewing her case, our team registered it.

On January 30, 2025, Mai Mumtaz was admitted to Bait-ul-Sukoon Cancer Hospital in Karachi. On January 31, 2025, Dr. Shafiq-Ur-Rehman performed a successful Modified Radical Mastectomy. After receiving quality post-surgery care, Mai Mumtaz was discharged on February 03, 2025.

Mai Mumtaz shared her heartfelt thoughts as follows:

"It was a very scary experience, and I thought I wouldn’t survive. However, your kindness and support enabled me to get well. I am extremely grateful to everyone who helped me.”

After the surgery, Mai Mumtaz is recovering well. She can now concentrate on providing her family with the care and attention they require.

Her family is extremely grateful for your kindness. Your generosity gave Mai Mumtaz the courage and strength to fight against cancer.
