Fatima Amir's Story

Fatima Amir, a 22-year-old woman from Karachi, has been suffering from constant discomfort for the past eight months. She suffers from pain in the upper right abdomen, often accompanied by nausea and vomiting. These painful episodes leave her exhausted and unable to focus on her household responsibilities or take care of her children.

Worried about her worsening symptoms, Fatima visited a hospital for medical consultation. After performing some necessary tests and an ultrasound scan, the doctor diagnosed her with Cholelithiasis. It is the deposition of hard mineral deposits in the gallbladder. To resolve her condition and prevent further health risks, the doctor strongly recommended a Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy. However, her family can’t afford her surgery.

If Fatima does not undergo this surgery, she may face the following health issues:

• Severe and recurrent abdominal pain
• Risk of gallbladder infection (cholecystitis)
• Obstruction of the bile ducts
• Potential life-threatening complications requiring emergency surgery

Fatima lives in a rented house with her husband and two young children. Her husband works as a daily wage laborer and earns only PKR 17,000 per month. From this meager income, PKR 6,000 goes towards house rent and PKR 5,000 for utility bills. Furthermore, they are also burdened with a loan of PKR 180,000. After covering these expenses, there is barely anything left for food and basic needs, making it impossible for them to afford the cost of surgery.

With a voice filled with both hope and worry, Fatima shared:

“The pain is becoming unbearable, and I fear it will get worse. My husband works hard, but he can’t manage the cost of my surgery. I want to recover so I can take care of my children again. Kindly help me.”
