Ahmed’s Heart Defects were Successfully Corrected

Ahmed Karim Ullah, a 3-year-old boy from Lahore, had been battling with breathlessness, fatigue, and chest discomfort since birth. On mild to moderate physical activity, his skin used to take on a bluish color. His parents were worried about his condition and they took him to a local hospital to consult a doctor. After performing a thorough examination and evaluation, the doctor diagnosed him with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), a condition characterized by four heart abnormalities. To allow his heart to function properly, the doctor advised open-heart surgery for total correction. Unfortunately, the cost of the surgery was overwhelming for Ahmed’s family.

This surgery was essential. Otherwise, Ahmed wouldn’t have been able to beat the disease and might have lost his life. Ahmed was living in a small rented house with his six family members. His father, the sole provider for the family, worked as a daily wage laborer and used to make just PKR 24000 per month. With this meager monthly income, they were struggling to make ends meet. Moreover, they had no savings at all to pay for Ahmed’s surgery. That’s when Transparent Hands stepped in to help him. Through the contributions of our donors, we arranged surgery for him at one of our panel hospitals.

On August 05, 2024, Ahmed was admitted to Ittefaq Hospital in Lahore. The surgery was scheduled for August 07, 2024. Dr. Asim Khan carefully managed his case and repaired the defects in his heart. Ahmed was hospitalized for four days and received post-operative care. On 11th August 2024, he was discharged in satisfactory condition from the hospital.

Ahmed’s parents shared their emotions as follows:
