Ashook Can Walk Now
Ashook Tiloo's Story
Ashook, a 25-year-old man from Sanghar, faced a challenging moment in his life. He saw his life change in an instant after a tragic road traffic accident. The accident left him with a severe spinal cord injury, taking away his ability to walk or bear weight on his legs. After consulting a doctor, Ashook was diagnosed with a spinal cord injury. The doctor advised Ashook to wear a hip-knee-ankle-foot orthosis to support his lower limbs. However, the cost of this medical device was beyond his financial reach.
Once active and full of dreams, Ashook found himself bedridden, struggling with the harsh reality of his new life. Simple daily tasks became impossible, and his future seemed uncertain as he faced physical, emotional, and financial challenges all at once.
Ashook lives in a small house with his two family members. Ashook’s family monthly income is just PKR 10,000 which is insufficient to fulfill necessities. He had no medical insurance, and the cost of the orthosis was beyond his financial capacity. Ashook was devastated by his inability to afford the necessary care, leaving him feeling helpless. During this time of need, Ashook’s family contacted Transparent Hands and asked us for assistance.
On 15th March 2024, his hip-knee-ankle-foot orthosis was fitted at the Chal Foundation in Islamabad. This was done under the skilled supervision of Dr. Ummad Shafiq. Ashook’s heart was filled with relief and gratitude when he took his first step with an orthosis.
Ashook described his emotions as follows:
“I felt like my life had come to a standstill after the accident, but now, I have hope again. I thank Transparent Hands and all the donors. I am starting to walk again, and it feels like a miracle.”
Today, Ashook is making remarkable progress. With the orthosis supporting him, he is slowly regaining his strength and mobility, and each step forward brings him closer to reclaiming his independence.
Ashook and his family extend their deepest thanks to you as you made his recovery possible. Your kindness has given him a chance to rebuild his life!
