Ayat’s Cochlear Implant Surgery Was Successful

Ayat Fatima's Story

Ayat Fatima, a 1-year-old girl from Jhang, Punjab, had a hearing impairment since birth. She couldn’t listen to the sounds around her. Her parents became increasingly worried about her state. They took her to a doctor, who diagnosed her with congenital Sensorial Hearing Loss (SNHL). Ayat Fatima was advised to undergo cochlear implant surgery. The news was very disconcerting for the family because they couldn’t afford the surgery. 

The family lives in a modest house that they do not own. Ayat’s father is a police employee and is the sole breadwinner for a family of six. Her father has to work very hard to meet the family’s needs. He couldn’t afford to pay for Ayat’s surgery. The case was referred to Transparent Hands. After reviewing the case, we decided to help Ayat Fatima with your help.

On April 23, 2025, Ayat Fatima successfully underwent cochlear implant surgery. The internal component of the cochlear implant was inserted by Dr. Imran Saeed expertly at Evercare Hospital in Lahore.  Ayat was discharged one day after the surgery.

The external component of the cochlear device was installed six weeks after the surgery. Ayat will also start receiving speech therapy sessions that will help her recognize different sounds. Ayat’s family was delighted at the success of the surgery, and they thanked everyone for their support:

“We were very worried about Ayat’s health. Knowing that you cannot help a child is a terrible feeling. Our family went through hard times, but with your support and kindness, Ayat will be able to grow up like other children. We are extremely thankful to everyone who helped us.”
