Daud Ahmed Stepped into the World of Sounds
Daud Ahmed's Story
Daud Ahmed, a 3-year-old boy from Lahore, was suffering from congenital deafness. His parents were heartbroken to watch him growing up without the ability to hear his loved ones’ voices. Concerned about his condition, his parents took him to a nearby hospital and received a medical consultation. After a thorough examination, the doctor diagnosed him with congenital sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) and recommended cochlear implant surgery for it. However, the cost of the surgery was overwhelming for him.
Since birth, his condition left him unable to experience the everyday sounds that most people take for granted. Daud belongs to a poor family, who struggles to make ends meet. He lives in a modest rented house with his five family members. The cost of the cochlear implant surgery was far beyond what his family could ever afford. The days that followed were filled with uncertainty and despair.
With hopes in their hearts, Daud’s family turned to Transparent Hands and asked us for help. Understanding the critical nature of Daud’s situation, we registered his case.
On June 6th, 2024, Daud was admitted to GIMS Hospital in Gambat. Dr Maqbool Ahmed performed the life-changing procedure and carefully inserted the internal component of the cochlear implant. The surgery marked the beginning of a new chapter in Daud’s life.
Six weeks after the surgery, the external component of the cochlear implant was installed. Daud is now attending speech therapy sessions to improve his communication.
Daud’s parents shared their gratitude as follows:
“Seeing him hearing and responding to us comforts us a lot. This surgery has allowed our son to experience the world in a way he never had before. He can now live his life to the fullest. We are extremely grateful for all the support.”
Daud Ahmed now has the chance to hear the voices of his loved ones, to learn and grow, and to live a life with endless possibilities. We express our gratitude to the donors who made his surgery possible. You gave his parents the greatest gift and ensured that Daud would no longer live in silence.
