Irza Gained the Ability to Hear
Irza Shahid's Story
Irza Shahid, a 1.5-year-old girl from Okara, lived in silence. Her parents noticed that she did not respond to sounds and wasn’t as active as other children her age. It broke her parents’ hearts to see her in this condition. They took her to a nearby hospital, where she received a consultation. After a thorough examination, the doctor diagnosed her with sensorineural hearing loss.
Her doctor recommended cochlear implant surgery. Her family knew that they wouldn’t be able to afford the financial cost of the surgery.
Irza’s father is a police employee. They live in a house allotted by the police department. Her father is the only breadwinner of the family. He earns just enough to meet the family’s basic needs, which means that he couldn’t afford the cost of the cochlear implant surgery. During this distressful time, Irza’s family contacted Transparent Hands to seek help. After listening to the case, we immediately registered it.
On 21st November 2024, Irza was admitted to Evercare Hospital, Lahore where she underwent cochlear implant surgery. Dr. Imran Saeed successfully inserted the internal component of the cochlear implant. After receiving the essential post-operative care and due monitoring, Irza was discharged on 22nd November 2024.
In 6 to 8 weeks, the external component of the cochlear implant will be installed, and Irza will begin her journey toward hearing and speaking. She will also attend speech therapy sessions to navigate the world of sounds effectively. Irza’s parents are overjoyed. They look forward to seeing her hear, speak, and learn like other children.
