Muhammad Nadeem Has Entered the World of Sounds

Muhammad Nadeem's Story

Muhammad Nadeem, a 3-year-old boy from Pakpattan, had been living in a silent world since birth. Nadeem had never heard his parents’ soothing voices and the laughter of other children. He was unable to enjoy the precious moments of his childhood. Upon noticing his unresponsiveness to sounds, Nadeem’s parents took him to a local hospital and received consultation from a doctor. After running some medical tests, the doctor diagnosed Nadeem with congenital Sensorineural Hearing Loss (SNHL) and recommended cochlear implant surgery. Unfortunately, his parents were unable to pay for his surgery.

This surgery was necessary for Nadeem to develop the ability to hear and speak but financial limitations came in the way. Nadeem lived in a modest rented house with his eight family members. His father, the sole breadwinner in the family, worked as a police employee and earned just PKR 45,000 per month. With this modest monthly income, they hardly managed to cover household expenses. Nadeem’s much-needed surgery was expensive and his family couldn’t afford to pay for it, leaving them in a desperate situation. A day came when a neighbor told them about Transparent Hands. Nadeem’s parents swiftly reached out to us and asked for assistance. After listening to their concerns we registered Nadeem’s case.

On 29th October 2024, Nadeem was admitted to the Evercare Hospital, Lahore. The surgery took place on the same day. Dr. Imran Saeed inserted the internal component of the cochlear implant. After receiving essential post-operative care, Nadeem was discharged in stable condition on 30th October 2024.

The external component of the cochlear implant was installed after six weeks of the surgery. Nadeem now attends speech therapy sessions to completely learn language and communication skills. Nadeem’s parents expressed their happiness as follows:

“We were worried about the future, but now we see endless possibilities for Nadeem. The cochlear implant has opened doors we never thought possible. Our son can now grow like other kids. We thank everyone who contributed for our son’s surgery.”

The gift of hearing has changed Nadeem’s world. It has opened up new opportunities for learning and connection, allowing Nadeem to thrive in ways he had only dreamed of before.
