Romaisa’s Heart Surgery Gave Her a New Start

Romaisa Hassan's Story

Romaisa Hassan, a 1-year-old girl from Dera Ghazi Khan, had been suffering from shortness of breath and chest discomfort since birth. Her inability to gain healthy weight and delays in reaching developmental milestones worried her parents deeply. Even simple activities left her fatigued and breathless. Concerned about her condition, her parents received medical advice.

After performing diagnostic tests, the doctor diagnosed Romaisa with Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) and Right Ventricular Outflow Tract Obstruction (RVOTO). To treat the defects in her heart, the doctor advised open-heart surgery for total correction. However, its surgical cost was overwhelming for Romaisa’s family.

Romaisa lived in a small brick house with her five family members. Her father was unemployed and her grandfather was a daily wager and earned just PKR 30,000 per month. With this meager monthly income, managing the utility bills and living expenses was challenging for them. Affording the cost of open-heart surgery was far beyond their financial capacity. Desperate to save their daughter, Romaisa’s parents reached out to Transparent Hands for assistance. Moved by their plight, we registered Romaisa’s case.

On November 17, 2024, Romaisa was admitted to the Ittefaq Hospital in Lahore. On November 19, 2024, Dr. Asim Khan performed her open-heart surgery for total correction, repairing the defects and ensuring proper blood flow. Following the successful procedure, Romaisa remained under observation for five days, receiving post-operative care. On November 24, 2024, she was discharged in stable condition.

Romaisa’s parents were overwhelmed with gratitude and they said:

“We lived in constant fear of losing her, but now she is recovering well. This surgery has given her a new chance at life, and we are thankful to you for making it possible.”

Romaisa is now healing. Her parents are happy to see her gaining strength, achieving milestones, and showing the energy of a healthy child. This change was made possible by your generous support. Romaisa’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to you and the Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation for giving her a brighter and healthier future. You have truly made a difference in her life.
