Rubina Akhtar Received an Artificial Leg
Rubina Akhtar's Story
Rubina Akhtar, a 60-year-old woman from Lahore, faced a challenging moment in her life. Her right leg was badly fractured in a roadside accident which led the doctors to amputate her right leg below the knee level. Rubina underwent the procedure at a nearby hospital. After the amputation of her leg, she faced extreme challenges while walking, standing, and even getting in and out of bed. She consulted a doctor about her condition who recommended a right below-knee prosthesis, the key to reclaiming her independence and mobility. But her family’s financial situation left this life-changing solution beyond their reach.
Rubina’s husband died a few years ago and she lived with her daughter in a small house. Her son-in-law worked hard to manage Rubina’s daily living expenses. As the sole breadwinner of the family, he faced financial hardships. The cost of the prosthesis was overwhelming for him. Rubina longed to get an artificial leg and she was afraid that she would forever remain dependent on others for her daily tasks. During this time of need, Rubina’s neighbor told her about Transparent Hands. She contacted us and asked us for help. Recognizing the gravity of her situation, we promptly registered her case.
On 26th September 2024, Rubina’s right below-knee prosthesis was fitted at Hope Rehabilitation Centre, Lahore. This was done under the supervision of Dr. Khalid Niaz.
Rubina’s eyes filled with tears when she took her first step with an artificial leg. She expressed her emotions as follows:
“I had lost hope, thinking I would never walk again. But I can walk on my own again, and it’s a miracle. I am grateful to everyone who helped me. After receiving this artificial leg, my life changed. I feel happy and independent once more. Thanks a lot for being there for me!”
You have truly changed Rubina’s life. She and her family offer their deepest gratitude to you. Your kindness has restored Rubina’s independence, dignity, and joy.
