Safina’s TOF Repair was Successful
Safina Rubab's Story
Eight-year-old Safina Rubab, a resilient young girl from Vehari, has faced numerous health challenges since the day she was born. She has endured the distressing symptoms of shortness of breath, cyanosis, fever, and chest pain, which have greatly impacted her daily life. Concerned about their daughter’s condition, Safina’s parents wasted no time in seeking medical assistance and were directed to a cardiologist. After undergoing a series of diagnostic tests and evaluations, it became apparent that Safina required surgery to address her complex heart condition.
In 2017, Safina underwent a crucial and life-saving surgery known as the left Blalock-Taussig (BT) shunt. The procedure aimed to create an alternate pathway for blood flow from the arterial circulation to the lungs, providing temporary relief and managing her congenital heart defects. While the surgery initially provided respite, Safina recently began experiencing the distressing symptoms once again. Medical evaluations revealed that she urgently needed TOF (Tetralogy of Fallot) repair surgery to address the underlying issues and provide her with a chance to reclaim a healthy life.
Unfortunately, Safina’s family faced financial constraints, and with their limited income, they were unable to afford the surgical expenses. However, their hope was reignited when they learned about the University of Lahore Teaching Hospital’s expertise in treating complex heart conditions. They reached out to the hospital, and their case was taken up by Dr. Salman, a skilled cardiac surgeon.
On 6th November 2023, Safina was admitted to the University of Lahore Teaching Hospital, where Dr. Salman successfully performed the total correction repair surgery. The operation, which lasted several hours, aimed to address the underlying issues and provide Safina with the opportunity to lead a healthy and fulfilling life. Safina remained under the hospital’s care for five days, receiving the necessary post-operative care and support to aid in her recovery.
Safina’s parents were overwhelmed with gratitude for the assistance they received. They expressed their deepest appreciation to the University of Lahore Teaching Hospital, Dr. Salman, and all the medical staff involved in Safina’s care. They were immensely grateful for the successful surgery that had given their daughter a chance at a brighter future.
In addition, they extended their heartfelt thanks to the generous donors and organizations that made this life-saving surgery possible. Their compassion and support not only transformed Safina’s life but also provided hope and relief to her entire family during a challenging time.
