Sarwar Regained Independence with a Prosthetic Arm

Muhammad Sarwar's Story

Muhammad Sarwar, a 35-year-old man from Okara, had a severe injury when his left arm was crushed in a fodder cutting machine. After a thorough examination, the doctors found that it was so badly crushed that they had to amputate it. The traumatic incident created several new challenges for Sarwar, leading to his increased dependence. To enhance Sarwar’s mobility and functionality, his doctor recommended a prosthesis for his left arm, specifically a below-elbow model. However, he couldn’t afford the cost of the prosthesis.

Sarwar lives in a 2-marla house with one child and three dependents. He is the sole breadwinner for the family. Sarwar works as a teacher at a local madrassa, earning PKR 20,000 monthly. Due to financial difficulties, he was unable to afford this treatment. His limited income hardly covers the utility bills and grocery expenses.

Although Sarwar’s family cared for him, there was no substitute for personal independence. In a desperate situation, Sarwar’s family contacted Transparent Hands and asked for assistance. After thoroughly investigating the case, we decided to register the case.

On 19th November 2024, Sarwar’s artificial arm was fitted at Hope Rehabilitation Centre, Lahore. Dr. Khalid Naz supervised this. When Sarwar used his prosthetic arm, he knew he would no longer have to live a dependent life. He immediately felt relieved and grateful.

Sarwar said:
“I feel I have been given a second chance at life. I will no longer require someone’s support for my routine living. I have gone through very difficult times after the accident, but now I feel that my good days have started. I am grateful to everyone who helped.”

Sarwar proficiently uses his prosthetic arm now. He is physically more active and manages most of his daily routines. His family is extremely thankful to everyone who helped.
