Shakoor Ahmed, a 45-year-old man from Okara, had been experiencing increasing pain and discomfort due to a lump on the front of his neck for quite some time. With time, it turned into a troubling condition that made even basic daily tasks challenging. Speaking clearly became an effort, and swallowing food or water often left him feeling strained. Deeply worried about his deteriorating health, Shakoor decided to visit a local hospital for a consultation. After conducting a thorough physical examination and running some essential tests, the doctor diagnosed Shakoor with toxic multinodular goiter. The doctor advised him to undergo a subtotal thyroidectomy. However, the cost of this surgery was far beyond Shakoor’s reach.

He lived in a modest rented house in Okara with his wife and four children. As the sole breadwinner of the family, he works as a daily wage laborer and earns only around PKR 30,000 each month. This modest income is barely enough to cover their rent, utility bills, food, and children’s school expenses. With nothing left to save, affording such a critical surgery seemed impossible. On May 7, 2025, Shakoor was admitted to Evercare Hospital in Lahore. On May 8, 2025, Dr. Ahmed Fawad performed his subtotal thyroidectomy successfully. After receiving the necessary post-operative care, Shakoor was discharged in a stable condition on May 9, 2025.
