You Empowered Ijaz Ahmed with an Artificial Leg
Ijaz Ahmed's Story
For Ijaz Ahmed, a 55-year-old man from Lahore, the world turned upside down when he lost his left leg due to diabetes. This incident filled his life with grief as he lost his job and couldn’t even carry out his routine tasks. Due to amputation, the emotional toll was immense, leaving him feeling isolated and hopeless. He went to a doctor to express his concerns regarding his disability. The doctor recommended a below-knee prosthesis that would enable him to walk again. However, the cost of the prosthetic leg was beyond his reach.
Ijaz lived in a 3-marla brick house with his wife and four children. His wife worked at a school canteen and earned just PKR 15000 per month. Ijaz was unemployed and his children relied upon their mother’s meager monthly income. The family was surviving in extreme poverty and even meeting basic needs was immensely difficult for them. Ijaz desperately needed an artificial leg but the cost associated with it was overwhelming for him. During this time of need, Ijaz contacted Transparent Hands. After knowing about his situation, we registered his case.
On 1st November 2024, Ijaz Ahmed’s below-knee prosthesis was fitted at Hope Rehabilitation Centre in Lahore. His procedure was done under the supervision of Dr. Khalid Niaz, bringing a sense of relief and a wave of joy to Ijaz’s life.
Ijaz said with happiness:
“I can’t believe I can walk with my artificial leg. Now, I can find a job to provide for my family. I am incredibly grateful for your immense support. Your generosity made a huge difference in my life.”
Today, Ijaz is learning to walk and perform various activities with his prosthetic leg. His quality of life has drastically improved. The emotional burden of his disability has been lifted, replaced by a sense of accomplishment and resilience. Ijaz and his family extend their deepest gratitude to you for allowing him to regain his mobility and independence.
