You Enabled Hammad to Hear with Cochlear Implant Surgery

Hammad Hussain's Story

Hammad Hussain, a 9-year-old boy from Muzaffargarh, had been unable to hear since birth. When his parents noticed his lack of response to sounds, they took him to a local hospital. The doctor conducted some tests and diagnosed him with congenital Sensorineural Hearing Loss (SNHL). In 2018, Hammad underwent surgery and a cochlear implant was placed in his right ear. For the first time, he heard the voices of his loved ones and started developing his ability to speak. However, the implant that had allowed him to experience the world of sounds stopped functioning. To restore his hearing, his doctor advised cochlear implant surgery for his left ear this time. Unfortunately, the cost of the surgery was far beyond his family’s financial means.

Hammad lived in a small house with his family of seven. His father, a police constable, was the sole breadwinner and worked hard to provide for his loved ones. However, his modest monthly income was only enough to cover their basic necessities, making it impossible to afford such an expensive medical procedure. Desperate to find a solution, Hammad’s family reached out to Transparent Hands for help. Recognizing the gravity of his situation, we swiftly registered his case and made the necessary arrangements for his surgery.

On January 23, 2025, Hammad was admitted to Evercare Hospital Lahore. Dr. Imran Saeed successfully implanted the internal component of the cochlear device. The surgery went smoothly. After receiving post-operative care, Hammad was discharged in stable condition on January 24, 2025.

In six weeks, the external component of the cochlear implant will be installed, allowing Hammad to hear once again. Additionally, he will begin speech therapy sessions to improve his communication skills.
