You Enabled Ume Farwa to Hear the Sounds Around Her
Ume Farwa's Story
Ume Farwa, a 2-year-old girl from Khanewal, had been unable to hear since birth. She couldn’t hear her loved ones’ voices or the cheerful sounds of nature. Activities like playing with toys that make sounds and responding to her name were beyond her abilities. Her unresponsiveness to sounds deeply concerned her parents. After consulting a specialist and undergoing several tests, Ume Farwa was diagnosed with Sensorineural Hearing Loss (SNHL). The doctor recommended a cochlear implant surgery to enable her to hear and eventually develop speech. However, the surgical cost was beyond her family’s financial capacity.
Ume Farwa lived in a modest house with her six family members. Her father, the sole breadwinner in the family, worked as a police employee and earned just enough to cover essentials. The cost of Ume Farwa’s surgery was far beyond their financial capacity, leaving them heartbroken and desperate for a solution. It was during this challenging time that a well-wisher told them about Transparent Hands. With renewed hope, Ume Farwa’s parents contacted Transparent Hands and shared their plight. We promptly registered her case and scheduled her surgery.
On 29th October 2024, Ume Farwa was admitted to the Evercare Hospital, Lahore. The internal component of the cochlear implant was successfully inserted by Dr. Imran Saeed. Ume received post-operative care and was discharged in stable condition on 30th October 2024.
Six weeks later, the external component of the implant was installed, and Ume Farwa began attending speech therapy sessions to learn communication skills. Her parents were extremely happy as they witnessed her respond to sounds for the first time.
Ume Farwa’s parents shared their emotions as follows:
“Our hearts are filled with gratitude. Watching Ume Farwa respond to sounds is a dream come true. We are thankful to you for making this surgery possible.”
Ume Farwa’s life has been changed, and her future is now brighter than ever. With the ability to hear, she can explore the world, learn, and communicate effectively with others. Her family is deeply grateful to you for giving their little girl a second chance at life. You have made a meaningful impact on her life.
