You Filled Abdul Qadir’s World With Sounds

Abdul Qadir's Story

Abdul Qadir, a 3-year-old boy from Khairpur, Sindh, had been living in a silent world since birth. Due to his inability to hear, he couldn’t enjoy the cherished moments of his childhood fully which other children take for granted. He used to remain silent and avoided playing with kids. Concerned about his condition, his parents took him to a nearby hospital and consulted a doctor. After a comprehensive examination and evaluation, the doctor diagnosed him with congenital sensorineural hearing loss. To enable him to hear and speak, the doctor advised cochlear implant surgery. Unfortunately, the surgical cost was overwhelming for his family.

Abdul Qadir lived in a small mud house with his six family members. His father, the sole breadwinner in the family, was a fisherman and earned just PKR 30,000 per month. With this limited income, they could barely make ends meet, and the cost of the cochlear implant surgery was far beyond their means. His parents were heartbroken, knowing that Abdul Qadir needed the surgery to lead a normal life, but they couldn’t afford it. During this time of need, they reached out to Transparent Hands and asked us for help. We listened to their concerns and promptly registered his case. With the support of our donors, we were able to arrange surgery for Abdul Qadir at a reputable hospital on our panel.

On 30th August 2024, Abdul Qadir was admitted to GIMS Hospital in Gambat. The surgery took place on 31st August 2024. Dr. Maqbool Ahmed skillfully inserted the internal component of the cochlear implant. After receiving post-operative care and critical monitoring, Abdul Qadir was discharged in satisfactory condition on 1st September 2024.

The external component of the cochlear implant was installed six weeks after the surgery. To improve his language and communication skills, Abdul Qadir now attends speech therapy sessions. Abdul Qadir’s parents shared their heartfelt gratitude as follows:
