Aiza Bibi's Story

Aiza Bibi, a four-year-old resident of Khyber Agency, had been living with profound hearing loss since birth. Aiza’s parents became aware of her hearing loss when she was just one year old. They sought medical advice, and after thorough evaluations and diagnostic tests, the doctors confirmed that she had sensorineural hearing loss. The recommended course of action for Aiza was cochlear implant surgery, a groundbreaking procedure that had the potential to restore her ability to hear. However, the cost of the surgery was beyond their means, leaving them faced with a heartbreaking dilemma.

Filled with hope, Aiza’s family reached out to Transparent Hands, seeking assistance to make Aiza’s dream of hearing a reality. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of many, Aiza’s journey towards a world of sound began. She was admitted to Ali Medical Center, Islamabad, where the skilled surgeon, Dr. Jawad Ahmed, installed the internal component of the cochlear implant on March 26, 2024. After just one day, she was discharged from the hospital, her heart filled with newfound hope.

Within six weeks, the external implant was also installed, accompanied by scheduled speech therapy sessions that held the promise of unlocking the wonders of sound once more. Aiza’s parents rejoiced as they witnessed their little girl’s transformation. Her eyes sparkled with joy as she heard the laughter of her family, the chirping of birds, and the rhythm of music. It was as if a whole new world had opened up before her.

With the support of dedicated professionals and the love of her family, Aiza Bibi journey of learning new words continued. She began to grasp the nuances of language and communication, taking small steps towards mastering the art of expressing herself.
