You Repaired Asia’s Heart Defects

Asia Bibi's Story

Asia Bibi, a 3-year-old girl from Dera Ghazi Khan, had been suffering from shortness of breath and cyanosis since birth. Her frail body and limited energy levels were a constant source of worry for her parents. Concerned about her condition, they received medical advice. After detailed evaluations, Asia was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), a congenital heart defect that prevents the heart from pumping blood effectively. The doctor recommended open-heart surgery for total correction to save her life. Unfortunately, the surgical cost was beyond her family’s reach.

Asia lived in a small rented mud house with her seven family members. Asia’s father worked as a daily wager and earned just PKR 18000. This income was extremely insufficient to even cover their utility bills, house rent, and groceries. Affording the cost of surgery was beyond their capacity. In their search for a solution, they approached Transparent Hands. After assessing Asia’s case, we took swift action to provide her with the medical care she needed.

On November 1, 2024, Asia was admitted to the University of Lahore Teaching Hospital. The next day, Dr. Faiz Rasool performed her open-heart surgery for total correction. The procedure was a success, restoring normal heart function and improving her overall health. Asia stayed in the hospital for five days to recover under expert care and was discharged in stable condition on November 7, 2024.
