You Restored Azra Bibi’s Ability to Walk

Azra Bibi's Story

Azra Bibi, a 73-year-old resident of Lahore, faced a significant challenge in her life. Azra had a tragic road accident. Her family took her to the nearby hospital. Upon examination, the doctor found out that her left leg had been crushed and decided to amputate her left leg below the knee. After that, Azra’s life was occupied with hardships and dependency. Azra has lived a long life filled with cherished moments and memories. After losing her left leg, Azra’s life was overshadowed by limitations and she was afraid to spend her remaining years without full independence. She consulted a doctor about her condition who recommended a below-knee prosthesis to help her regain her mobility. However, the significant cost of the prosthesis was beyond her financial capacity.

Azra lives in a modest house with her ten children. Her two sons are drivers and their insufficient monthly income hardly covers their household bills, educational, and living expenses. Azra’s family’s financial situation was already stretched thin and affording the costly prosthesis was impossible for them. With hope in her heart, Azra contacted Transparent Hands and asked for help. We listened to her concerns and immediately stepped in to help her.

On 5th July 2024, Azra’s left below-knee prosthesis was fitted at Hope Rehabilitation Centre. Dr. Khalid Niaz critically supervised her case and the procedure was completed successfully.

Azra Bibi shared, her voice filled with emotion:

“I was hopeless due to my condition but you gave me the support when I needed it the most. Now I can spend my remaining years without relying on others. Your generosity has changed my life.”

With a comfortable and functional prosthesis, Azra can perform daily tasks without pain, leading to higher satisfaction and a sense of autonomy. Not only will it help her in physical mobility but also positively impact her mental health by reducing feelings of helplessness and enhancing her self-esteem.
